2019 Conference in Austin, TX

The Guild is excited to announce that the 2019 Conference for Community Arts Education will be held in Austin, Texas.

This will mark the first time the conference will be held in Austin. We are working closely with Austin- and Texas-based leaders, Guild Members, artists, and community members to ensure that our anticipated 700+ conference-goers have a chance to experience what Austin has to offer, includingon Halloween. The conference will be held from October 30-November 2, 2019 at the JW Marriot in Austin, 110 East 2nd Street, Austin, TX 78701.

The Conference Program

Every year, the Conference is shaped by those it is designed to serve: arts education leaders, administrators, teaching artists, researchers, and board members, A request for session proposals is issued in the spring, and the resulting proposals shape the bulk of the conference. These sessions are then organized into 7 content tracks, which in the past have included Organizational Growth and Sustainability, Arts in Education, Teaching Artistry, Social Justice, Creative Youth Development, and more.

Check back here in the early spring of 2019 to contribute your ideas for an impactful conference! Until then, please explore the highlights and agenda of the 2018 conference to get a better sense of how our annual gathering may serve you and your team.

Celebrating Arts Education in Austin and in Texas

The Guild will host a series of town-hall style meetings in the late winter in Austin and other Texas cities. These town halls will surface local assets and challenges, will deepen the planning team's understanding of the host region, and will inform the shape and substance of the 2019 Conference. In particular, the local ecosystem of arts education providers will help curate community events, site visits, and offsite sessions, and opportunites for conference goers to experience local culture (including Halloween and Dia de Los Muertos, which, we are told, are major celebrations in Austin).

If you are an arts educator in Texas, we would love for you to join us for one of these conversations!

February 27: Austin, TX
February 28: San Antonio, TX

In the meantime, if you have an idea about how the conference might best leverage and serve Austin and/or the field of community arts education, we'd love to hear from you! email us at conference@nationalguild.org.
