The National Guild for Community Arts Education contributes to the growth and development of its constituents by providing a broad range of programs and services to the field. Our key programs include training institutes that develop professional skills and competencies in individuals, and institutional mentoring programs that lead to improvements in organizational effectiveness.   We foster the replication and dissemination of best practices through conferences, publications, and grantmaking.

Partners in Arts Education (formerly Partners in Excellence) is a national initiative which was developed to identify and study best practices in K-12 arts education partnerships and foster their replication.  The program awards grants, distributes a handbook, and produces training institutes.

With the coming of the' elder-boom' and new research indicating that arts participation is good for the general health and wellness of older adults, the National Guild has embarked on the Creative Aging Initiative. This multi-year initiative provides information and training to foster start-up and development of participatory arts programs for older adults.

Board Development Initiative

Serving on the board of a community arts education provider involves serious obligations. Nonprofit boards set organizational direction, ensure that there are enough resources to accomplish the mission, and provide oversight for finances, programs, and legal and ethical conduct. Board service also brings great personal satisfaction, as board members witness the impact of their organization on the life of its community. The Board Development Initiative provides effective practices, information and tools to help board members and arts education leaders work effectively to make a postive impact.

Member Directory (members only)

The Guild's Member Directory is a networking resource and reference guide that also highlight the field’s scope and diversity. The directory is available through the Member Center as both a PDF, as well as an interactive online versionwith advanced search features and additional member data not available to the public. The online directory includes information on each member organization’s budget, description, primary disciplines offered, chapter, and primary contact. Members can search for peer organizations using any of these criteria and easily export a spreadsheet that enables them to network with that group by email, phone or mail.

 

MEMBER FORUM (Members only)

The Guild's Member Forum is a flexible web-based discussion tool that enables community arts education professionals to connect with each other across the country to ask questions and share information, advice and ideas. Through the Forum, you can create and reply to threads (conversations on a topic), search for previous conversations, and receive email notification of new posts (through the "subscribe" functions).

PEER ADVISORY SERVICE (Members only)

Past program: creative communities

The mission of Creative Communities was to expand access to serious, progressive instruction in the performing, literary and visual arts for children and youth living in public housing communities in order to improve their quality of life and promote skills leading to greater self-sufficiency. Through a competitive application process, 20 community schools of the arts and their housing partners were awarded three-year grants of $135,000 to implement Creative Communities projects in their respective cities.

past program: metlife youth music project

The three-year MetLife Youth Music Project was developed in collaboration with MetLife Foundation.  The program made available free, private and group music instruction to middle school children from underserved communities in 10 cities.  Instruction was provided by artist/faculty on a weekly basis during non-school hours throughout the year.  Each participating site received a $10,000 grant to fund its activities, renewable for an additional two years.

past program: Nea/youth opportunity (yo!)

Through a cooperative agreement with the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Guild delivered strategic support and training to eight NEA/YO! Arts Partnership sites in order to strengthen their arts programming. This program was designed to introduce and enhance the quality of arts activities taking place within selected Youth Opportunity (YO!) Community Centers funded by the U.S. Department of Labor.
