2008 National Conferene planning meeting at Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial, Philadelphia, PA
On February 8, the Guild met with more than 50 representatives from 40+ community arts education organizations at the Fleisher Art Memorial in Philadelphia to begin planning the 2008 Conference for Community Arts Education. Guidelines released for MetLife Foundation Partners in Arts Education grant program
The goal of the Partners program is to enhance arts learning in K-12 Public Schools by supporting exemplary Community School of the Arts/Public School partnerships that serve large numbers of public school students during the school day and A) exemplify best practices in creating and sustaining effective partnerships; B) provide pedagogically-sound arts education experiences; C) prioritize student learning and achievement; and D) address national, state, and/or local arts education standards. Guild Participates as National Co-Sponsor in Arts Advocacy Day: Washington, D.C.
As a national co-sponsor, the Guild will participate in all Arts Advocacy Day events, and be involved in planning and shaping the advocacy message and contents of the Congressional Arts Handbook, which is distributed to every Congressional office in Capitol Hill.

Northeast Chapter meeting: Hingham, MA
As a 2008 Chapter Project grant recipient, the Northeast Chapter will present a workshop entitled “Arts & Aging Programming: Philosophy to Reality,” which will provide an intensive professional development opportunity for executive directors, program directors, marketing staff, development staff and faculty, while engaging personnel at a higher level of understanding of the community arts education field beyond day-to-day operations. The workshop will be led by Donna Bost-White, Director of Arts Education, New Jersey Performing Arts Center. The event will take place on Friday, April 11at the South Shore Conservatory (Hingham Campus) and begins with a brief business meeting and chapter update. Join the Central Great Lakes Chapter for a regional meeting like no other… plan to attend, bring your staff and bring students to participate in a day of artistic experiences, useful professional development opportunities, networking, performances and FUN! We are planning a full experience with two different tracks during the day. Participating students will have the opportunity to explore some of Cleveland’s exciting arts organizations and educational institutions. School administrators will participate in professional development opportunities and visit area institutions to hear about new and exciting partnerships.
