Summary- community school of music and theatre arts in Westchester County seeks grant writer with minimum 3-5 years related development experience. Preferred candidate will have track record of securing foundation, corporate and government funding and a proven ability in donor research and cultivation; strong writing skills; thorough understanding of budgeting; knowledge or background in music or arts education. Salary based on experience. This individual will be responsible for coordinating Development Department needs relating to foundation and corporate grant writing including research, interaction with faculty, Board-directed development activities and Conservatory staff; all writing assignments, distribution, follow-up, and tracking. They will also assist in aspects of fundraising activities supporting the annual fund, corporate and foundation funding, and major fundraising events. High attention to detail and strong multi-tasking skills are essential. This individual must possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team

Responsibilities:

  • Write all foundation and organization grant proposals for the institution.
  • Interact with faculty, Board-directed development activities and Conservatory staff to better understand the program history, goals, and uniqueness.
  • Identify sources of new grants
  • Maintain necessary records and documentation to support this function.
  • Maintain files by granting agency of past proposals, by program with all pertinent information
  • Report to senior management as to the progress of all grant applications.
  • Participate in planning committees for fundraising as needed

Minimum Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Three years grant writing experience
  • The ability to write persuasively, clearly and quickly
  • Ability to work well independently and with others
  • Strong organizational and conceptual skills
  • Passion for and knowledge of the performing arts and arts education
  • Comfort with word-processing, database, scheduling, email, content management, and spreadsheet software.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office software and fundraising software (preferably, FundEz, ACT, or Raiser’s Edge)
