Assistant Dean of Students and Faculty

Description

Working closely with the Dean, this position will assist in providing leadership for the day to day operations of the Conservatory’s educational programs, student recruitment activities, registration process, and interaction among faculty, students and parents. Work the staff and faculty to maintain the quality of existing programs as well as developing new programs.

Responsibilities

 

Assist with new student intake

  • Counsel and interview prospective new students and families
  • Assess interest, background, and level in order to advise appropriate course of study

 

Coordinate student ensembles:

  • Create ensemble descriptions for marketing materials
  • Work with Dean to generate annual program projections
  • Communicate information to students and faculty
  • Handle student auditions and placement
  • Schedule groups and work with the Dean to assign coaches.
  • Produce 2 ensemble concerts and jazz dept. concerts each school year.

 

Coordinate Student Performances: school-wide recitals, play-ins, ensembles concerts, studio and departmental recitals.

  • Create and manage annual performance calendar
  • Manage sign-up process with faculty and students
  • Schedule and manage rehearsals as needed
  • Manage accompanist assignments, schedule and payments.
  • Work with Office Manager to create spreadsheet and program for each performance.
  • Provide onsite management of performances.

 

Manage group instrumental classes

  • Create program descriptions for marketing materials and work with Communications
  • Manager to distribute them in the community
  • Generate annual program projections; develop curriculum, and faculty assignments.
  • Create class schedule and faculty assignments
  • Ensure that curriculum is carried out by visiting classes and maintaining regular communication with faculty

 

Manage Musicianship program (Music Skills, Theory)

  • Create program descriptions for marketing materials
  • Work with Dean to generate annual program projections
  • Create class schedule and faculty assignments
  • Ensure that curriculum is carried out by visiting classes and maintaining regular communication with faculty

 

Co-manage summer music programs (currently July Music and Arts Enrichment program).

  • Interview students.
  • Hire music and art teaching staff.
  • Set –up schedule and organize student groups
  • Handle room set-up for music and art classes.
  • Oversee rental of any required instruments
  • Organize music performances and art show.
  • Assist with morning arrival and afternoon departure.
  • Work with Director to address any problems that arise.

 

Develop and manage program budgets for student ensembles, student performances, group

  • instrumental classes, musicianship classes, and summer music programs.
  • Submit budget to dean and Director of Administration for review.
  • Track expenses and enrollment by program.

 

Manage implementation of skills-based programs in partnership with public schools and pre-schools. (Maximum # of programs to be managed by this position will be determined.)

  • Recruit and assign faculty.
  • Create program descriptions.
  • Oversee curriculum.
  • Oversee quality control through site visits and faculty supervision.


Minimum Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in music related field.
  • Experience teaching students of various ages and skill levels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience managing educational programming
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills: comprehensive knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook in Windows environment.

Preferred Background

  • Advanced degree.
  • Prior experience in a community music school setting.
