Director of Community Programs

Longy School of Music

Cambridge, MA


This full-time Senior Staff position at The Longy School of Music will oversee the organization’s community programs, which includes our Preparatory and Continuing Studies programs. The Preparatory Program includes the Young Performers Program, which is a pre-college track for high school age musicians who are aspiring musicians. This role will strategically organize the courses and programs in the community so that they serve the needs of our neighbors while also fulfilling our mission of preparing musicians to make a difference in the world. The Director of Community Programs will need to create a financially healthy department that raises the school’s local profile and connects strategically with key external constituents.


Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and collaborating with the Community Programs Manager to ensure an efficient placement system for students
  • Managing and collaborating with faculty chairpersons to communicate with and support both faculty and students
  • Coordinating with the registrar’s office to ensure a smooth registration process for students and accurate recording of student information
  • Collaborating with the communications department to market and advertise community programs effectively
  • Networking and outreaching with community organizations and businesses to create strategic partnerships for programs and initiatives
  • Managing the community programs’ budget
  • Recruit students
  • Draw the community into Longy and raise the school’s local profile
    Coordinate with the Concert Office to purposefully maximize use of the concert hall
  • Supporting the needs of the various programs and departments
  • Working closely with the Academic Affairs office to bridge the two programs
  • Collaborating with Institutional Advancement to create a meaningful scholarship program for students and to strengthen relationships between the school and donors
  • Innovating new courses that meet the needs of our community and further the school’s mission

Qualification:

Longy is currently looking for someone with musical expertise and at least five years of experience leading a community music program.
