The Harlem School of the Arts

The Harlem School of the Arts, a nonprofit, community-based school of the arts that offers instruction in dance, music, theater and the visual arts, has an immediate need for unpaid and/or college credit interns in the Visual Arts, Dance, Music, and Development Departments. Reporting to the Directors of the respective departments, the responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting the Directors in the day-to-day operations of the department.
- Manage all project and administrative aspects of the department.
Visual Arts, Dance and Music interns will:
- Interact with teaching artists, other Program Directors & Program Associates, parents and students.
- Assist in organizing departmental events, activities, exhibits, and performances.
The Development intern will:
- Maintain Raisers Edge donor database.
- Draft and prepare donor acknowledgements, receipts, and invoices.
- Prepare and mail matching gift forms.
- Prepare monthly donor activity reports and pledge reports; generate reminder letters.
- Assist with the production of fundraising, donor cultivation and programmatic events.
Requirements:
Must be able to commit to a minimum of three months and 10 to 20 hours per week.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year experience in the arts
- Excellent oral and written communications skills are a must
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications, particularly Word and Excel
- Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task and manage several administrative tasks simultaneously
- Experience working with teaching artists, parents and students
- Availability on Saturdays is preferred
