growth of membership

The National Guild was founded in 1937 by 12 community music schools in the Northeastern U.S.  Growth was slow at first; by the late 1970s there were 60 member schools located in 16 states.  Today, over 370 schools and community arts education organizations belong to the Guild, representing 45 U.S. states, two territories, Bermuda, and Canada.  Our membership now reflects all art forms and encompasses small, incipient organizations and multi-million-dollar institutions alike.
