The Community Arts Education Leadership Institute (CAELI) provides a transformative experience through which current and aspiring leaders advance their skills by engaging with top leadership trainers and nationally-renowned community arts education practitioners. Designed and facilitated by Partners in Performance, the eight-month program begins in May 2012 with a 360-degree feedback process and advanced assignments, a 5-day/4-night seminar at Bryn Mawr College (Philadelphia, PA), from July 17–21, and follow-up coaching sessions from August through December.
Eligibility Criteria & Selection Process
Institute participants will gain skills and perspective needed to lead community arts education organizations and develop relationships with an extraordinary cohort of peers dedicated to advancing the field.
To optimize the learning experience, participation is limited to 25. Successful applicants will:
- Be in an executive leadership role at a tax-exempt organization within the field of community arts education – or – be preparing to move into such a role within the next few years. For example, applicants may be executive directors, heads of departments, or other key staff members with management responsibilities.
- Commit to participating in all Institute activities as described above and the Institute evaluation process.
- Have the support of their organization to participate.*
Applications will be evaluated using the following criteria:
- Does the applicant demonstrate a high potential for leading successfully?
- Does the applicant demonstrate a commitment to a career in the field of community arts education?
- Does the applicant’s organization support their participation?*
Special efforts will be made to recruit a diverse cohort in terms of geography, ethnicity, gender, professional background, etc.
* Those not currently employed in the field of community arts education may apply but should contact National Guild Associate Director Ken Cole at 212-268-3337 ext. 18 to discuss their candidacy.
Costs
American Express and other leading funders have invested in the future of the community arts education field by subsidizing a significant portion of Institute expenses. The cost of the leadership development experiences provided exceeds $7,000 per participant; however, registration fees are only $1,195 for those from Guild member organizations and $1,495 for others. Registration fees cover:
- Training Materials
- The 360-degree feedback process
- Follow-up executive coaching
- The 5-day/4-night institute at Bryn Mawr College (July 17–21, 2012), as well as room and board (two meals per day plus opening and closing receptions). Participants are responsible for travel expenses and incidentals.
If your application is accepted, payment of your registration fee will be due by Friday, April 30, 2012.
Application Process
All application materials must be received by the Guild by 5:00 PM ET, March 30, 2012.
To apply:
1. Mail the following to CAELI Applications, National Guild for Community Arts Education, 520 8th Avenue, Suite 302, New York, NY 10018.
a) Your completed application form (Word) (PDF)
b) Your $50 application fee, paid by check (to “National Guild”) or Credit Card
c) A one page statement of interest, describing
- What you hope to gain by attending the Institute
- Why participating in the Institute is important for you at this stage of your career
- How you believe your participation will benefit your organization and the community arts education field.
d) Your résumé (two pages, maximum)
e) A letter of recommendation, from a leader in your organization, addressing:
- How he/she knows you, in what capacity, and for how long
- Why he/she feels you would be a good candidate for the Community Arts Education Leadership Institute
- Your level of commitment to the field
- Your leadership potential
- How the organization will support your participation. Will it help cover your participation fee? Make time for your colleagues to participate in your 360-degree feedback process? Provide support in other ways?
Note: if your recommender prefers, he/she may seal the letter of recommendation.
2. Email you one page statement and résumé to CAELI@nationalguild.org with “CAELI Application – YOUR FULL NAME” as the subject line.
3. Have the individual writing your letter of recommendation email a copy to CAELI@nationalguild.org with “Recommendation – YOUR FULL NAME” as the subject line.
You will be notified regarding the status of your application by April 19, 2012.
If accepted, your registration fee ($1,195 for members; $1,495 for nonmembers) must be paid by April 30, 2012.
