Elizabeth Butterworth of Auburn, MA, a 2007 graduate of Pakachoag Music School of Greater Worcester, has been named a Rhodes Scholar for 2012. She began her music experiences at Pakochoag as a 3 year old early childhood music student, followed by 11 years of private piano lessons through high school graduation.
Elizabeth, currently a senior at Princeton University majoring in the classics, plans to pursue studies in educational policy, including themes connected to community arts education, while at Oxford. Elizabeth’s interest in the role arts play in civic engagement stem from her sustained experiences at Pakachoag. While a Princeton student, Elizabeth returned to Worcester to found the Afternoon Tunes outreach program for Worcester inner-city families, a youth-focused/youth-generated free music lesson program which includes Pakachoag Music School as a key program partner.
