Ifetayo Cultural Arts Academy (Brooklyn, NY) announces their first Global Axé Diasporic Conference: Connecting Youth and Community, August, 7-11, 2012 in Bahia, Brazil. Youth attending the conference will have the opportunity to exchange with each other and the community through workshop sessions, mbongi style panels and plenaries. The basis for the conference is rooted in Ifetayo's philosophy and proven success of youth development within a cultural paradigm.
Youth development within a cultural paradigm is designed to capture youth's historical sense of self. By focusing on the heritage, ancestral lineage, traditions, and cultural contributions of the Diaspora, Ifetayo delivers unique programming that resonates with the community it serves. Ifetayo's cultural paradigm is inherently collective, communal and focused on the whole rather the individual, while the each person and their talents is uniquely honored.
