Karen Deschere will be leaving her current position as the president and CEO of the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music (Milwaukee, WI) at the end of June 2012 to assume her new position as director of the Harbor Conservatory of the Performing Arts (New York, NY).
Deschere joined the Wisconsin Conservatory in July 2004 and has since increased enrollment by over 30 percent. She has stabilized the organization and increased its impact in the greater Milwaukee area, especially the Conservatory Connections program which currently serves 9,000 students in 49 public, private and charter school programs. She also oversaw the development of a developmentally-appropriate early childhood music program that serves 350 children each year in the Conservatory’s branch locations and an equal number in six program sites throughout the community. While Wisconsin Conservatory director, Deschere was co-chair of the Western Great Lakes Regional Chapter. She will continue to serve on the Guild’s Members Council as a representative of Harbor Conservatory. The executive committee of the Wisconsin Conservatory’s board has contracted with the Catherine French Group to manage a national search for her successor.
