Inspired by Venezuela's renowned El Sistema, Guild member Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA is teaming up with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Bard College (Annandale-on-Hudson, NY) have launched a bi-coastal partnership called, TAKE A STAND. The new program supports social change through music, provides a national platform for pioneering educators, and advances work in music education within the United States. TAKE A STAND will combine LA Phil's existing program Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA), Bard College's experience in developing renowned academic and socailly based training programs, and Longy's role as a leader in progressive and rigorous training for performing and teaching musicians. The partnership will also launch a new master of arts in teaching (MAT) in music degree program, which will be accredited through Bard. The Masters program will be based in Los Angeles.
