The National Guild is thrilled to announce the launch of the Small Schools Network!

The network, led by Leo Van Asten, executive director at Rhapsody Arts Center and Guild Ambassador, is designed to support the work of arts education organizations with budget sizes below $500,000. All budget sizes are welcome within the network, but the programming will be designed for organizations in this budget range.

"Running a community arts education organization can be a daunting task. As smaller organizations, we understand the challenges and unique benefits of being such an institution, " says Van Asten. "This network is being formed to connect these smaller schools – institutions that are just as important as the larger schools but who don’t have the benefit of large budgets and staff."

The Small Schools Network will create a forum in which administrators across the country can share ideas, give support, and act as sounding boards for one another. Throughout the year, the network will convene both physical and online events aimed at creating new opportunities for knowledge sharing and strengthening the capacity of arts educators who often have to do more with less.

The network’s inaugural event will be held on June 9, 1:00 – 2:00 PM ET. This online video chat will serve as a launch pad for the Small Schools Network. Some of the goals of the event include: meeting other participants in the network, sharing ideas for how the Small Schools Network can best support the work of the field, and providing thoughts on how the Guild’s 2016 Conference programming can be responsive to the needs of small schools.
