Oct 19, 2017

Each year, the National Guild recognizes extraordinary leaders for their contributions to arts education at the Conference for Community Arts Education. This year, we are proud to present awards on each day of the Conference. Milestone Awards, honoring long-standing, exceptional service to the field, will be presented at the Thursday and Friday plenary sessions, November 16 & 17. Our National Service and National Leadership Awards will be presented at the festive Annual Awards Breakfast on Saturday November 18 (included with conference registration).

Meet our fantastic honorees!

Lara Davis
, 2017 National Guild Service Award

This award recognizes Lara Davis' remarkable service to the National Guild and its membership as co-founder of the ALAANA Member Network and current ambassador, long-time member of the CYD Steering Committee, Community Arts Education Leadership Institute alumna and faculty member, and as a frequent presenter in Guild conferences and online learning programs. Her leadership has contributed greatly to the Guild’s increased commitment to racial justice, equity, and social change, and has provided enormous value to our membership. She is arts education manager for the Seattle Office of Arts and Culture, serves on the National Advisory Committee for the Teaching Artists Guild, and facilitates equity and racial justice trainings for teaching artists, educators, and organizations.

Ellen Michelson, 2017 National Guild Leadership Award

This award recognizes Ellen Michelson’s accomplishments as founder and president of Aroha Philanthropies, an organization with a progressive and strategic approach to grantmaking, advocacy, training, and technical assistance. Ellen strategically directs the foundation’s giving, allowing her to connect more deeply and engage intentionally with grantee organizations, always recognizing Aroha’s grantees as collaborative partners. Inspired by formative moments from Ellen’s own childhood, Aroha Philanthropies’ efforts are concentrated in three distinct areas: 55+ in the arts, K-12 arts education, and adult residential mental health and the arts.
