Nov 07, 2016

From November 2-5 in Chicago, IL, over 650 leaders in arts education attended the 2016 Conference for Community Arts Education. The conference – which featured performances from local organizations such as ChiArts, Merit School of Music, and Chicago Children’s Choir; thought-provoking keynotes from visionary leaders including Bettina Love, Kevin Coval, and Kharry Lazarre-White; and over 50 breakout sessions and roundtable discussions featuring field experts – was a unique opportunity for community arts educators to convene with national peers, build lasting relationships, and learn how to expand their impact through the arts.

With an overarching theme of expanding equitable access to arts education in communities across the country, the conference provided learning and discussion opportunities in leadership development, teaching artistry, social justice, community partnerships, arts in education, and creative youth development, as well as providing nuts and bolts tools to improve organizational effectiveness.

Delegates at this year’s conference came from over 360 organizations in 39 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Canada! More than half of attendees are active members of the National Guild, representing arts ed organizations working across all disciplines and of all sizes.

The National Guild would like to thank all those who attended the conference and helped to make it a success. The Guild staff is in awe of the incredibly rich and vibrant discussions that unfolded in Chicago and we can’t wait to do it again next year!

For those who attended the Conference, session resources, videos, and other materials will be available shortly through the Guild website. Please be on the lookout for announcements regarding session materials near the end of the month.

We will be regularly updating a photo album on our Facebook page. Check it here!

Thank you again to all of those who made this year’s conference possible. We’ll see you all next year in the Bay Area!
