On Monday, July 25th, the House defeated a bill which would have eliminated funding for the National Endowment for the Arts. Teresa Eyring has compiled a summary of the key points made by congressman debating in opposition to the funding cut. The arguments demonstrate a profound understanding of the value of arts to communities throughout the United States, but also provide irrefutable statistics regarding the positive impact the arts have on the economy. One Congressman noted that every $1 invested by the NEA returns $9 in economic value.
