On August 1, the New York Times reported that thirty-one states have cut their arts budgets for the 2012 fiscal year, which began on July 1, only one month ago. According to the National Assembly of State Agencies, this is only the most recent development in a decade long trend which has seen a total drop in funding of 42%.
