On February 13, 2012, President Obama released his FY 2013 budget request, covering both the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the U.S. Department of Education. In the request, Obama proposes an $8 million increase in funding for the NEA. This could mean significant increases in several NEA grant categories, inlcuding the Our Town grants, which would double from $5 million to $10 million. The budget request also proposes $69.8 billion in discretionary spending for the U.S. Department of Education, which is a $7.6 billion decrease from last year's request.
