The first major book on Venezuela's renowned arts education program, El Sistema, is due to be published in January by W.W. Norton & Company. The book, "Changing Lives: Gustavo Dudamel, El Sistema, and the Transformative Power of Music," is written by Tricia Tunstall, an author and music educator who earlier this fall released the essay, "Batuta: the Columbian 'Sistema'" in collaboration with Guild Conference Keynoter, Eric Booth. "Changing Lives" uses Gustavo Dudamel's story as an entry point into the evolution of El Sistema, from its miraculous beginnings, through its development into one of the world's most successful demonstrations of art for possitive social change, to its explosive growth reaching Los Angeles, New York City, Baltimore, and cities around the world.
